We Did a Thing...We Got Married!

We did a thing...we finally became one! After 9 years of having met online we finally tied the knot. I honestly couldn’t be happier. August 24, 2019 in front of our family and a few close friends, we took our marriage vows in front of God at our church. Now that I think back on the day, mostly everything from the time I walked down the aisle is a blur. It felt so surreal. This is coming from someone who at one point had a heart full of doubt on whether or not she’d actually become a wife one day.

The purpose of this blog post is not to share my thoughts and fears, I’ll save that for a later time. I just wanted to share some of what I did to make the big day a success. I loved the way everything finally came together. I planned our wedding along with the help of my family, church family, and close family friends in just 8 months. I originally had plans to use a wedding planner that I fell in love with, but we decided to go a different route.

I started with choosing a color scheme from pinterest for my wedding, and simply built from there. The theme was Garden Party, I wanted our guests to wear nice summer dresses, be relaxed and comfortable, and I also wanted a lot of pretty flowers and rustic items on the table. The woman who did the decorations achieved the look I was going for perfectly!

I spent a lot of my time and money in Hobby Lobby! I picked up a few items from Target, TJ Maxx, and Michaels, but the bulk of the wedding necessities came from Hobby Lobby. They were constantly having a 50% off sale on their wedding items, so I was able to get everything I needed for half the price...which resulted in me spending more money (because I just couldn’t pass up on a deal).

My flowers were silk flowers and they were rented from Something Borrowed Blooms. Of course I would have loved to have real flowers, but that didn’t make sense to me at the time. I wanted to have the flowers necessary for the ceremony, but didn’t want to have to pay for flowers that would be thrown away. It was perfect for me to rent them and return them because I got my money’s worth and someone else can use the same flowers at their wedding in the future. I loved working with Something Borrowed Blooms, the process was super easy, and the flowers were AMAZING!

I purchased my dress from Azazie!I honestly don’t even remember how I came across Azazie. I downloaded their app to my phone and I used it until I found the perfect dress! I wanted a nice dress, but I also wanted it to be affordable. It didn’t make sense to me to spend thousands of dollars on a wedding dress for one day to be worn for a few hours.

What I loved the most about Azazie was the try on at home feature. I was able to pay about $15 for them to ship a sample dress to me to try on at home. I chose a few different styles until I was able to find the right one. I used my family and my bestie to help me try them on at home. The app was user friendly and customer service was superb.

I ordered my shoes from David’s Bridal. Everyone knows about David’s Bridal...but honestly, that was a big mistake. The shoes were super cute, so me...and the perfect shoe for my wedding dress. The only thing that was wrong with the shoe was that it was the right size but too narrow. My feet were falling out of the shoe. I should’ve returned them, but I was too scared to do so because I didn’t want to chance the shoe not being here on time.

I did my makeup and my sister and I both did the make up for the bridesmaids (I’ll talk more about them in a separate post). I went to my cousin’s salon in Atlanta for my sew-in and she curled my hair all nice and glamorously for the big day.

There’s so much more that I want to share and could possible share...but I’ll probably just make a video. :)

So How’s Married Life?

We have only been married 26 days (28) and I must say...I love it! I have no complaints. I know it’s just been 26 days, but Ryan and I have been super close for such a long time, if anything we’ve gotten closer. My prayer for the both of us is that we will continue to get closer as the days, months, and years go forward. We have committed to allowing God to be the center of our lives & marriage...there’s no stopping us now! I have a special post coming soon...so stay tuned!
